Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi has disclosed that the
deployment of a helicopter by the Federal Government was to complement the
existing security measures in the state.
Recall that the Federal Government had deployed a helicopter
to Ebonyi State to provide aerial surveillance during Saturday’s general
elections.
Speaking with the journalists in Abakaliki on Friday, Umahi
explained that the helicopter would fly at low altitudes and urged the
residents not to panic. The development was to deter bandits or insurgents from
disrupting the election in any part of the state.
“We received a surprise package from our security chiefs in
Abuja aimed at having free, fair and credible elections in Ebonyi. The aircraft
landed at our international airport. And its mission is to secure our lives and
bolster voters’ confidence so that bandits threats will not see the light of
day,” he said.
