A Catholic Priest, Fada Angelo Chidi Unegbu, has said the
case of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra,
IPOB, and so many other irregularities and offences are the reasons the country
is about to collapse completely.
Unegbu claimed that the reason Kanu is still being detained
despite court orders to release him is because of his tribe.
Kanu has been in the custody of the DSS since his arrest in
2020.
DAILY POST reports that a federal high court in Abuja had
fixed March 19 to rule on a fresh bail application filed by Kanu.
Kanu is standing trial on a seven-count charge over alleged
terrorism.
However, the cleric, who made this known in a post on his
Facebook page on Wednesday, described Kanu as an innocent man, saying he should
be allowed to go.
He said: “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is still being detained despite
court orders to release him because of his tribe. Unfortunately, no country
progresses without justice. Still holding Mazi Nnamdi Kanu despite the
crippling economy shows that the country prefers destroying itself to doing the
right thing. The case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and so many other irregularities and
offences are the reasons the country is about to collapse completely. Allow the
innocent man to go. I did not say grant him freedom because that has already
been granted. One holding one on the ground is also holding himself.”
