President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has
said that removing Russia from the G7 countries was a mistake in the first
place.
Trump said he would have Russia back while highlighting his
vision for a shake-up in the world order during an interactive session with the
media on Thursday.
Russia was suspended from the G7 in 2014 after Moscow
annexed Ukraine’s Crimea Peninsula.
“I think it was a mistake to throw him out,” Trump said,
referring to the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.
Recall that during his first tenure as US President, Trump
tried to see Russia readmitted into the G7 but could not get the support he
needed from European allies.
Earlier on Wednesday, the US leader had revealed he expected
to meet his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin separately for Ukraine peace
talks.
He later announced that he had spoken with Putin, adding
that it was a highly productive conversation.
“It’s the people. It’s President Putin, President Xi. I
don’t need bodies, I don’t need anything. It’s people. It’s all about people.
It’s about relationship and people. I’ve had a good relationship with President
Putin,” he declared.
