An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan, the state
capital, has sentenced no fewer than seven internet fraudsters.
The court, under the leadership of Justice Bayo Taiwo,
convicted and sentenced the seven internet fraudsters to various jail terms.
The convicts included Ogunyemi Olajide Temitope, Olamilekan
Fafiolu Quadri, Olamilekan Paul Akinyemi, Ayegbusi Ayokunle, and Taiwo Azeez
Dolapo.
Others are Adeogun Usman Oluwatobiloba and Oyewumi Michael
Oluwapelumi.
The convicts, according to the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC), were convicted after pleading guilty to a one-count separate
charge.
Wilson Uwujaren, Head, Media and Publicity, in a statement
made available to DAILY POST on Thursday said that the convicts had earlier
been arraigned by the Ibadan Zonal Command of EFCC.
He maintained that the convicts were arrested by operatives
of the Ibadan Zonal Command of EFCC over internet-related offences.
The prosecution counsels, Oluwatoyin Owodunni and Mabars
Mabur prayed the court to convict and sentence them as charged.
The presiding judge then convicted and sentenced Temitope,
Quadri, Akinyemi and Ayokunle to six months of community service each.
The judge also ordered that “any of the convict who fails to
report at any point in time to their designated places assigned for the six
months community service, shall be sentenced to three years imprisonment at the
end of the community service”.
The judge, while speaking further, convicted and sentenced
Oluwatobiloba to six months imprisonment.
The duo of Dolapo and Oluwapelumi were sentenced to six
months of community service each.
Also, the court ordered Temitope to pay the sum of $4,600 in
restitution, Akinyemi $3,000, and Quadri $1,000.
