Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov has described U.S.
House of Representatives Speaker, Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan as a show of
U.S. impunity.
Lavrov also compared Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan to U.S.
support for Ukraine’s defence against Russia.
DAILY POST reports that Pelosi visited Taiwan on Tuesday
evening in defiance of Chinese threats.
China, which regards Taiwan as part of its territory, has
promised an unspecified military response to any Pelosi visit that risks
sparking a crisis between the world’s biggest economies.
Reacting to the development, Lavrov was quoted by the BBC as
saying it “reflects the line we have been talking about in relation to the
Ukrainian situation.
“This is an ambition to prove to everyone their impunity and
to show their entitlement: I can do whatever I want.”
Meanwhile, Russia and China’s relationship has expanded
steadily in recent times.
Ahead of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, China joined Russia
in opposing further NATO expansion, and although China has not endorsed Russian
operations in Ukraine, it has not condemned the war either.
