The leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate
Elijah Ayodele, has identified politicians as those responsible for the
continued incarceration of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of
Biafra, IPOB.
In a statement by his Media Aide, Oluwatosin Osho, Ayodele
said these politicians should withdraw from Kanu’s continued incarceration.
He also warned President Muhammadu Buhari that the Southeast
would become more volatile with Kanu’s continued incarceration.
He said politicians behind Kanu’s continued detention should
withdraw to allow justice to prevail.
The clergyman said Kanu’s continued incarceration would
cause a serious crisis in the 2023 general election.
He said: “The more Nnamdi Kanu stays in prison, the more
volatile the southeast zone becomes.
“If they want peace in the zone, politicians behind his
travails should withdraw.
“The government should stop locking him behind bars. If he
is guilty, let him be sentenced; if he is not, let him be set free, that’s the
criteria for peace.’’
Kanu had been locked up since he was arrested in June last
year in Kenya. Upon his arrest, he was repatriated to Nigeria.
Following his return to Nigeria, an Appeal Court in Abuja
had acquitted and discharged Kanu of all terrorism charges.
Despite the judgment, the Nigerian government refused to
release the IPOB leader.
