French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday briefed his
fellow European Union leaders on his recent talks with US President Donald
Trump in Washington.
On Monday, Macron became the first European leader to be
received at the White House by Trump since he began his second term in office.
According to an EU official, Macron spoke about his visit to
Washington during a press conference.
European Council President António Costa, who organised the
video conference, said the exchange was very useful in preparing for a special
EU summit next Thursday.
Costa added that decisions on the EU’s support for Ukraine
and the strengthening of European defence are expected to be made at next
week’s gathering.
In Washington, Macron urged that Europeans, who were excluded
from recent talks on Ukraine between US and Russian representatives, should be
more closely involved in negotiations.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is also expected at the
White House on Thursday.
